I'm registering my bike with Kryptonite anti-theft scheme and it asks for the serial number. My local dealer wrote down the frame number for me, saying I might need this for insurance purposes. Are these two names for the same number or are they distinct?
You will not be able to determine the model by serial number- the numbers on a bicycle are not like the VIN on a car. I suggest that you look here Home - Bicycle Values - BicycleBlueBook.com and search the Trek database.

Yes, two phrases for the same thing.
Download ppsspp games. More specifically its the frame's serial number. Other components may have their own serial numbers too.
Any electric shifting component will likely have serial numbers which can be read by software, as will power meters or other sensors.
Small priced items generally don't have serial numbers.

Frame numbers are generally required to be stamped on every frame. They are usually 6-10 digits long.
However, a very small minority of bikes (notably Bromptoms) also have a barcoded serial number that is affixed on a sticker.
Serial Numbers On Bicycles
In this photo you can see both the serial number (15033303xx) and the frame number (49374x). The serial number embeds a date code, so you can tell it was assembled in March, 2015. This helps the manufacturer track defects in assembly as well as sales data for warranty verification. When you register your Brompton, you supply both.
Generally police and bike registries want the frame number (even if they ask for the serial number) as the serial number sticker can be peeled off. If you register your bike on BikeIndex.org (strongly recommended), then you can include both.

I recently bought a bike online and I wanted to make sure it was the bike I paid for. I looked for the serial number on the bottom of the bike and couldn't find it. Where else would they put the serial number on a 24 inch Haro?

This image from the City of Portland police shows the common places for bicycle serial numbers. Note that they are usually stamped and aren't very visible.
Note that one area not shown on this image is the head-tube. That's where my latest bike had it. Otherwise, my bikes all have it in location #4 (bottom of the bottom bracket) or behind the seat post.
Heroes 3 shadow of death download. Note this posting from Bike Forum which shows the Haro serial number stamped on the bottom bracket.
There is also a registry of Haro bmx serial numbers, which might also help in identifying your bicycle:
This latter registry is particularly useful because it has user-submitted photographs of serial numbers. While the majority are on the bottom bracket, some are stamped very faintly into the rear dropouts.
